Gas vs. Electric Dryers: Does Vent Cleaning Differ?

Cleaning the duct is identical. The risk profile is not.

The duct side is the same job

Both dryer types exhaust hot, humid, lint-laden air through the same style of rigid duct, and both need the full run brushed and vacuumed.

Length limits, elbow penalties and termination requirements do not change with fuel type.

Gas adds combustion to the equation

A gas dryer burns fuel, so a blocked exhaust can push combustion byproducts, including carbon monoxide, back toward the living space.

That makes a working CO alarm near the laundry area a basic requirement, not an optional extra.

Electric dryers fail differently

Restricted airflow drives the heating element and thermal fuse past their limits, which is why blocked vents so often end with an expensive repair call.

The overheating itself is also the ignition risk.

What we check on gas installations

Beyond the duct, we look at the connection at the machine, confirm the damper opens under load, and verify there is no shared venting with any other appliance.

Anything involving the gas line itself goes to a licensed plumber, not a duct crew.
