Start with the shortest exterior path
Every foot of duct and every elbow adds resistance. The best install is the one that gets outside fastest, ideally through a rim joist or nearby exterior wall.
Routing a vent across a basement to reach a preferred exterior wall almost always costs more in performance than it saves in appearance.
Know your equivalent length budget
Manufacturers publish a maximum equivalent length, and each 90-degree elbow counts as several feet against it. Exceeding the budget causes long dry times and lint buildup regardless of how clean the duct is.
We calculate this before quoting so the finished run is within spec, not just physically connected.
Termination matters as much as the run
A proper hood with a damper, no screen, and clearance from windows and soffits keeps lint moving out and pests from moving in.
Screened covers are the single most common cause of rapid clogging we see in Union County homes.

- At least three feet from any operable opening
- Sealed and flashed at the wall penetration
