Leaks at seams and boots
By far the most common issue. Seams open up, boots pull away from drywall, and conditioned air leaks into attics and crawlspaces. Mastic and metal tape are the fix — not duct tape.
Disconnected runs
Flex duct in attics often falls off the takeoff entirely. Whole rooms lose airflow until the run is reconnected and properly strapped.
Crushed or kinked flex
Flex duct compressed by attic storage or crushed by an installer choking airflow to the rooms downstream. The fix is replacement, not patching.
Undersized or missing returns
Rooms with no return air can't deliver supply at design rate. The fix is adding a return or a transfer grille.
Missing or torn insulation
Bare duct in unconditioned spaces lets the system give up half its capacity to the attic. Insulation upgrade is straightforward and pays back fast.
